Meszes Yellow Muscat 2013
The grapes for our late-harvest Furmint come from a slope on
the outskirts of Szegilong settlement. The largest contiguous
area of our family estate with its excellent terroir can be
found on the Hatalos slope steeply inclining towards the
south-east, and due to its mineral-rich soil capable of producing
high quality wines. The size of the plantation is 3 ha.
Date of planting: 1998.
Canopy management: mid-high cordon, 3-meter
row distance, and 1-meter spacing between vines.
Winemaking-ripening: To preserve the value of the high quality grapes our wine is
produced by using conventional methods. At our winery the
harvest takes place in two phases. The harvest for our dry wines
is in mid-October with only 1 or 2 grape clusters left on the vines
for the second phase in November for our late-harvest wines. The
crushing and destemming of the berries is followed by a 12-hour
soaking period to maximize the sugar, flavor and aroma substance
gained from the grapes. After a gentle pressing process the juice
is fermented in oak barrels and ripened for about 4 to 5 months.
Alcohol: 10,5% vol
Sugar: 114 g/l
Acid: 6 g/l
Quantity: 800 bottles
The grapes for our late harvest wine were left on the vine until
they reached 25-26 degrees brix. The wine is characterized by
its extremely high sugar content, which is complemented nicely
by its acidity, fruitiness and freshness. Hints of dense quince,
apricot jam, and cinnamon can be discovered in the aroma. The
characteristics of honey, propolis and grass appear in its taste
according to the mood of the wine’s scent, backed up by the
sufficient concentration of the body and the residual sugar.
